Small rooms can be difficult to decorate properly to avoid looking tiny. Adding too much to the room can make it look cluttered and adding too little will showcase how small it is. Where’s the balance? Where’s the happy medium?
In all truth and honesty, as long as you like what your home looks like none of the following matter.
But if you want your small rooms to look bigger there are a few steps you can take to make it happen!
Light colours make areas look bigger.
Even if you are unable or unwilling to paint your darker coloured walls, adding light coloured or white furniture, bedding, throw blankets, pillows or art work to your home will make it look bigger.

Mirrors are a trick that everyone from Homes, Restaurants and Apartments use to make a space look bigger. It gives the feeling that there is double the space that is reflected in the mirror.
It's is very commonly used in entry ways for faking expanded space and helping you get one last look at your outfit before you leave the house!
Keeping Couches Away from the Wall
Now, placing your furniture in the middle of the room can give of the opposite effect. When we say keep your furniture off the wall, it only has to be by a few inches. Having your couch placed against the wall makes it seem like you just don't have the space you actually do.
Area Rugs
Using an area rug that doesn't cover the whole floor area can create a more spacious look.
Furniture with legs
Legged furniture allow you to see under it and takes up less visual mass in a room creating more space
Keeping your bed lower to the floor.
Bedrooms can be difficult to create space especially if you have a couple of people sharing the room.
The best course of action it to lower the bed. As with the Legged furniture creating more visually empty space can make a room feel bigger.
